Project: Food Budget, Week 8

March 10, 2011

This week I went to the grocery store, victim of an unhealthy impulse. I really wanted to have lunch at Potbellys, a sandwich chain. I had all the ingredients for a cheese sandwich at home, but I wanted the potato chips. Harris Teeter had big bags of potato chips, even BOGO, and well I figured buying two bags of chips for $3 was better than the $7 sandwich. We normally don’t buy potato chips, since neither of us have the ability to stop eating them. However, the purchase was totally worth it, so that would be my frivolous buy for the week. Maybe I can do some funny potato chip recipe to justify the cost!

In order to prevent further disaster, AAM went to the grocery store to do the serious shopping, so he was in charge of the budget. We skated by, going over budget by $3. Looking out for sales, he stocked up on pasta because DeCecco was on sale, as well as Amy’s Organic soups- our go to emergency meal. After throwing in some beer, we got really close to budget. I wonder if we will have to switch roles? Am I getting to be a better budget shopper than him? I never thought the day would come!

Beeeeer! That was one of my splurges this week. I bet with the holiday coming up (and nicer weather, etc.) that beer will be pushing other people other budget, too. Like your holiday-inspired menu! 🙂
