Project: Food Budget Week 7

March 3, 2011

We are back on track! Last week’s splurges will help us for awhile. This week, to refill we only needed a few items. To prevent some sort of continued relapse, we saved our grocery trip for our long Sunday walk. The weather was beautiful in DC, nearing 60, so we decided to make a day organized around a long walk. While she took a morning nap, I sewed a stroller blanket for Serafina. Fleece on one side, adorable print on the other, it is the perfect thing for the stroller. I even sewed a big pocket in the middle for her lovey, Foo Foo.

The three of us walked down to Shirlington, about a mile, and stopped in on the new pub, Samuel Becketts. You see, the Scotland v. Ireland rugby match was on, and we dressed to display our own loyalties to play up the family rilvaries. Let’s just say that the Irish staff loved Serafina and myself, but didn’t say much to AAM. The Irish manager was very curious about how we stay married with such a major conflict. All in good humor, but I am pretty sure if AAM had been wearing a British rugby they would have pushed even more. AAM even won an Ireland tshirt in a raffle! After brunch and rugby watching, we walked over to the grocery store. We could only purchase what we could carry, which kept our food budget down to $30.

That is a delicious sounding menu you’ve got worked up. Only buying what you can carry is a pretty good strategy. I love all the tips I’m picking up from everyone…
